Seth Rollins Beats CM Punk, LA Knight, Jey Uso to Retain WWE World Title in Paris
Seth Rollins beat CM Punk, LA Knight and Jey Uso in a Fatal 4-Way match at WWE Clash in Paris on Sunday to retain the World Heavyweight Championship.
Rollins secured the win when his wife, Women's Intercontinental Champion Becky Lynch, hit Punk with a low blow to open the door for him to deliver the Stomp and earn the pin.
Rollins turned the world title scene on its head at SummerSlam earlier this month when he successfully cashed in his Money in the Bank contract to beat CM Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship right after Punk had won it from Gunther.
Weeks earlier, Rollins seemingly suffered a knee injury during a match against LA Knight on Saturday Night's Main Event. Following an awkward landing off a springboard, Rollins got checked out by doctors, and Knight took advantage by kicking him in the leg and hitting him with a BFT for the win.
While some rumors and speculation suggested the injury may have been a work, Rollins went to great lengths to sell it by sporting a walking boot and using crutches every time he went out in public.
Rollins was off WWE programming for weeks until the conclusion of Night 1 of SummerSlam when he interrupted Punk's celebration by emerging on the stage with the boot and crutches in tow, only to throw them aside and cash in on Punk.
On the post-SummerSlam episode of Raw, Knight was confronted by Knight, who felt he deserved a title shot given that he beat Rollins at Saturday Night's Main Event.
Rollins and Knight clashed in the main event of that Raw, but there was not a decisive finish, as Punk showed up and attacked Rollins, preventing him from stomping Knight's head onto the exposed concrete floor.
The following week on Raw, Punk and Knight had a heated exchange in the ring since both wanted to get their hands on Rollins and the world heavyweight title.
Uso also entered into the mix since he had issues with Rollins' cronies in Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed, teaming with Roman Reigns to beat them at SummerSlam.
Rollins, Breakker and Reed viciously attacked Reigns on the Raw after SummerSlam, and since Jey was not there to save his cousin, he threw his name into the world title picture as well in an effort to get some revenge against Rollins.
With three of WWE's top stars all pursuing the World Heavyweight Championship, Raw general manager Adam Pearce made a Fatal 4-Way title match between Rollins, Punk, Knight and Uso official for Clash in Paris.
While Rollins was a marked man in a volatile situation, he found a way to emerge victorious in Paris and retain the title in his first premium live event defense since winning it at SummerSlam.
