Javonte Williams Reportedly Gets Most Cowboys RB1 Reps amid Fantasy Football Drafts

Andrew PetersAug 11, 2025

Javonte Williams could be in for a big year in terms of fantasy football production.

While the start of the regular season is still a few weeks away, Williams "continues to see the most reps with the starters" during the Dallas Cowboys' training camp, per The Athletic's Jon Machota.

The Cowboys have the luxury of depth at the running back position, though Machota noted that "no one has come close to running away with the No. 1 job." Williams, however, has the chance to shine in the weeks leading up to the season.

According to Machota, Miles Sanders is dealing with a knee injury, and rookie Jaydon Blue suffered an ankle injury last week after getting reps with the first team. Those injuries mean Williams has the chance to make a strong case for the starting job while taking reps with the first team over the next few weeks.

Williams likely isn't going to be the first option for most fantasy managers, but he wouldn't be a bad late-round pickup to have around in case of injuries. Williams had just 513 rushing yards and four touchdowns last season, but added 52 receptions for 346 yards as well.

Looking at other possible fantasy options in the Cowboys' backfield, Blue might be the next best pickup, though drafting him could be a bit of a toss-up since it will be his first season.

Sanders was once a 1,000-yard rusher, but is now a bit of a risky pick due to his recent injury history. He played just 11 games last season because of various injuries, recording a career-low 205 rushing yards and just two touchdowns. While his current knee injury might not sideline him for long, it's not exactly a good indication that he's on his way to having a healthy season.
