NFL DC Says Josh Allen is 'Toughest QB to Defend' and a Combo of Burrow, Lamar Jackson

Buffalo Bills star Josh Allen's skillset is viewed as a combination of the talents of other top quarterbacks such as Cincinnati Bengals signal-caller Joe Burrow and Baltimore Ravens passer Lamar Jackson.

"Josh Allen is the toughest quarterback to defend," a defensive coordinator told Mike Sando of The Athletic. "He is a combination of Lamar and Burrow. Lamar is the better runner. Burrow is the better pure passer. Josh is right in the middle. He can sling the ball around for 400 yards. If you have that covered, he can run for 100 yards, too."

"The only thing that has been an issue for him is turnovers playing hero ball, and that was better last year," the coordinator added.

Allen is coming off a stellar 2024 campaign, earning MVP honors for the first time in his career.

He completed 63.6 percent of his throws for 3,731 yards and 28 touchdowns compared to a mere six interceptions in 17 starts. Allen also posted a 77.3 QBR, tied for the highest in the NFL.

The 29-year-old routinely made plays with his legs as well, picking up 531 yards on 102 attempts on the ground. He found the end zone 12 times as a runner, marking the second consecutive year in which he recorded a double-digit rushing touchdown total.

Allen stepped up during Buffalo's playoff run that ended in the AFC Championship Game, completing 70.7 percent of his passes for 636 yards and four touchdowns without getting picked off in three postseason appearances.

His unpredictability makes him difficult to defend, as he varies between using his arm and his legs to move the chains consistently.

Allen has four career games with at least 400 passing yards and three games with at least 100 rush yards under his belt.
