NASCAR's Connor Zilisch Breaks Collarbone During Celebration, 'Doing OK' After Injury
NASCAR driver Connor Zilisch fell out of his car while celebrating his victory at Saturday's Xfinity Series Mission 200 at The Glen, breaking his collarbone in the process.
On Sunday, he provided a number of updates on the situation, noting that CT scans on his head came back clear.
"First of all, I'm doing OK," he said on the USA broadcast of the Cup Series' Go Bowling at The Glen. "Very grateful to be able to walk away from that, and I guess I didn't walk away, but I'm very grateful to be walking today and to just be all right. Thank you to all the medics who took care of me, and everybody who reached out and wished me well. I do appreciate it a lot."
"Yeah, I was climbing out of the car and obviously the window net was on the door, and as soon as they started spraying water, my foot slipped," he added. "And the last thing I remember was being halfway down and falling, so I'm glad it wasn't any worse, and that the collarbone is the extent of the injuries, but hate I couldn't make it to the race today."
The Xfinity Series will next be at the Daytona International Speedway on Aug. 22. It's unclear if he'll be available for that race, with Zilisch noting that he and his team were "working out with all the doctors to figure out what's going to be the next steps."
He's had a strong rookie season, with six wins on the Xfinity Series. He leads the series in both points and wins.
