Charles Oliveira vs. Rafael Fiziev Set for UFC Fight Night Card in Rio de Janeiro

After falling short in his attempt to recapture the UFC lightweight championship earlier this summer, Charles Oliveira is set to begin his climb back to the top of the mountain.

UFC announced that Oliveira will return to the Octagon against Rafael Fiziev on Oct. 11 in a five-round main event for a Fight Night in his native Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

This will mark Oliveira's first fight in his home country of Brazil in over five years. He faced Kevin Lee in Brasília in March 2020 and won by third-round submission.

Oliveira is coming off a devastating first-round knockout loss to Ilia Topuria in the main event of UFC 317 on June 28. It was his first knockout loss in over eight years, and it came at the worst time as the lightweight title was on the line after former champion Islam Makhachev vacated the belt to move to the welterweight division.

After the loss, Oliveira released a brief statement on social media saying that he's taking things in stride.

"It wasn’t how we wanted it but I’m fine," Oliveira wrote on Instagram. "I just want to thank everyone for the affection and the wonderful energy. God bless you all."

Fiziev was a rising contender in the lightweight division before a three-fight losing streak set him back. He most recently earned a unanimous decision win over Ignacio Bahamondes at a Fight Night in Baku, Azerbaijan, on June 21.

A win against Oliveira would surely work wonders for Fiziev's chances to earn a title shot against Topuria at some point, but the Brazilian will certainly be motivated to put on a show in his home country when they meet this fall.
