Jaxson Dart Behind Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston on Giants' Unofficial Depth Chart
The New York Giants listed rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart third in their first unofficial depth chart ahead of the 2025 NFL season.
Dart was QB3 behind Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, though The Athletic's Dan Duggan noted he has gotten a lot of reps with the second string in training camp.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Teams typically activate two quarterbacks in a given week, so there's a distinction between being second or third in the depth chart.
Given his sizable experience advantage, Winston makes sense as the backup to Wilson because you'd trust him more if he got pressed into duty. Replacing an injured Wilson mid-game would also be a less-than-optimal setting for Dart to make his debut.
Being the third-stringer in Week 1 wouldn't preclude Dart from overtaking both Winston and Wilson as the year unfolds, either.
Drake Maye and Michael Penix Jr. were backups when the 2024 campaign kicked off before getting elevated to the starting role. Brock Purdy sat behind both Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo to open 2022, steadily ascending the lineup as Lance and Garoppolo got injured.
Most understood Dart is a project coming out of an Ole Miss passing attack that's far different from the way NFL offenses operate. Likewise, the Giants have given every indication Wilson is their starter despite the aggressive play they made to land Dart.
How long New York sticks with the 10-time Pro Bowler is the big question.
Is the franchise willing to effectively redshirt Dart, or will there be some internal pressure to get him on the field and show the investment was worth it?
The fact the Giants have a head coach and general manager who are on the hot seat adds another variable. Should they get off to a slow start, Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen may want to accelerate Dart's development to provide some evidence of what they can achieve with him moving forward.
