Alex Ovechkin Signs Movie Rights Deal After Breaking Wayne Gretzky's NHL Goals Record
The decorated career of Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin may get the silver screen treatment one day.
Ovechkin struck a deal with Russian technology company Yandex that opens the door for a movie or documentary that covers his time on the ice. He's also going to become one of the company's pitchmen.
This wouldn't be the first time the 39-year-old was profiled. Alex Ovechkin: The Gr8 came out in 2010 and largely focused on his exploits off the ice. His quest to break Wayne Gretzky's all-time goals record was the purpose behind GR8TNESS, released in 2023.

There's no question Ovechkin has achieved enough on the ice to warrant a full film treatment or multi-part documentary. He's a 12-time All-Star and three-time winner of the Hart Trophy, and he actually did surpass Gretzky's goal tally in April.
You could probably produce a film solely about the Capitals' Stanley Cup triumph in 2018. The stories to mine from their championship celebrations are endless.
Ovechkin will eventually retire as one of the greatest players from his generation. That's a legacy worth celebrating in some form.
