Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson Among Most Popular NFL MVP Bets Ahead of Preseason Games

Andrew PetersAug 4, 2025

With the NFL preseason set to begin this week, a handful of players are gaining traction on the MVP betting market.

According to DraftKings Sportsbook, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow (+650) is the most popular bet for MVP so far, with 22 percent of bets. Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson (+550) is just behind him with 12 percent of bets. Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels (+750), Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes (+700) and Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts (+1700) round out the top five.

Burrow made a strong case for MVP last season when he threw for 4,918 yards and 43 touchdowns, both of which led the NFL, while giving up just nine interceptions. Unfortunately for Burrow, his team's struggles likely prevented him from winning the award as the Bengals went 9-8 and missed out on the playoffs.

Those struggles were mainly on the defense, as the Bengals gave up the seventh-most points per game while recording the sixth-most points per game. If Burrow's defense can help him out a little bit more in 2025, he could take home his first MVP trophy.

Jackson could be on a revenge tour this season after missing out on his third MVP a season ago. He arguably had a better resume than Josh Allen in 2024, recording 4,172 yards and 41 touchdowns along with 915 rushing yards and four touchdowns on the ground, but still couldn't take home the award.

Perhaps the snub will fuel another MVP-caliber season.

A second-year player getting MVP hype is pretty uncommon, but it's understandable after the season Daniels just put together. Daniels, the No. 2 pick in 2024, won Offensive Rookie of the Year after throwing for 3,568 yards and 25 touchdowns, plus 891 rushing yards and six touchdowns on the ground. He also led the Commanders to the NFC championship game.

Only a handful of players have won MVP in their second season, including Jackson and Mahomes, so Daniels could join elite company this season.

While Burrow, Jackson and Daniels might be a few obvious favorites to win MVP, there will likely be some surprise names that emerge throughout the season.
