Pitt County Girls Softball Seeks Championship Repeat
4 of 4
The Pitt County Girls Softball Little League squad went the distance in last year's tournament, besting Sterlington Little League from Louisiana by a score of 1-0.
The team out of Winterville, North Carolina has made the field of 12 four consecutive years and last year, did not lose once en route to their World Series win. Along the way, they scored 44 runs and were the undisputed best team in the field.
In 2025, they return to the tournament with only two players from that squad, but that does not mean the team will slow down defensively. Through the North Carolina regional tournament, Pitt County scored 23 runs in three games, including an 11-run outburst against Rutherford County.
They face a bracket of international competition first, while their potential opponents in the finals include first time participants from the Mid-Atlantic, New England, and Northwest regions.
The key for their contenders will be their ability to limit scoring. The regional tournament proved that teams can score against Pitt County, but they have yet to be able to hang more runs on them.
Strong, consistent pitching and defense can be their downfall, but that may prove easier said than done.
There is something to be said about consistency, and no team in this field exhibits that more than the defending champions and hometown team, who should be considered the favorites to emerge from this year's tournament with the title.
