Buy or Sell Backstage Reaction to WWE: Unreal, Bianca Belair Injury Rumors and More
What has been an unusually busy year for pro wrestling hits one of its peaks on the 2025 calendar with SummerSlam from East Rutherford, New Jersey, this weekend.
With the two-night event following WrestleMania’s format now and becoming bigger than ever, the pro wrestling rumor mill has swelled to match.
As such, there are many, many rumblings for fans to keep up with in a short amount of time. Chief among those are long-term booking plans, possible big roster shakeups and some of the usual buzzworthy stuff, such as whether or not a big name leaves a promotion.
To help fans keep pace amid the chaos, here’s a look at the must-know items from the rumor mill and whether they should buy or sell on each as legit.
WWE Draft Status?
1 of 5
The Rumor
Is there going to be a WWE Draft this year or not? According to PW Insider (h/t Randall Ortman of Cageside Seats), they have not “heard a word” about a draft at all.
Reaction
This one feels super-notable. Usually, there’s at least some small rumbling that a draft is in the works or even being kicked around as an idea. This is especially true when Raw and SmackDown rosters start to feel stale or when it feels time for an NXT call-up or two.
Buy or Sell?
Buy. It’s an odd one, though. On one hand, WWE has made an effort to be more like a real sport than ever. Drafts are perhaps the biggest part of the biggest sports and a great way to draw attention. But on the other, fans sort of know there is so much crossover between brands now that it’s sort of a waste of time. Ignoring a draft gives WWE flexibility to move things on a whim and not box themselves into still brand restriction rules, too.
WWE: Unreal Reception
2 of 5
The Rumor
The new Netflix series WWE: Unreal is a hit. According to Fightful Select (h/t Ortman), those backstage at WWE are “extremely happy” about the overall reception to the new show.
Reaction
Unreal was always going to be a hit with pro wrestling fans. Any chance at a behind-the-scenes look backstage at the wrestlers and creative process classified as such with fans.
Buy or Sell?
Buy. Part of the intrigue beyond just seeing the more human side of wrestlers, not the acted characters, is the debate about how much of the show itself is actually real. How much of it is real and not played up for the cameras? Hard to say. But it makes sense that even casual or new fans would find this more sports-like documentary style appealing, hence WWE loves the attention it brings.
Karrion Kross Update?
3 of 5
The Rumor
At least to fans, Karrion Kross and Scarlett remain in limbo. According to Fightful Select (h/t Ortman), neither has been approached about a new contract, with their current deals allegedly set to expire in August.
Reaction
Kross, especially, has been a subject of much buzz and speculation for months now. The on-off booking and the memorable shoot-like promo after WrestleMania 41 have fueled the narratives.
Buy or Sell?
Sell on Kross leaving WWE. He’s in a big program with Sami Zayn right now, and while that isn’t always proof of a wrestler sticking around for the long-term, it still feels like WWE won’t want to lose him to competition. Likewise, it doesn’t necessarily feel like a 40-year-old Kross will see the appeal in starting over in a promotion like AEW.
Bianca Belair Return Buzz
4 of 5
The Rumor
Is Bianca Belair on the way back? According to WrestleVotes (h/t Ortman), Belair is “closing” in on a return that could unfold at the SmackDown following SummerSlam.
Reaction
Fans haven’t seen Belair in a ring since WrestleMania, where she suffered a broken finger. That was the fantastic triple-threat showdown also featuring Iyo Sky and Rhea Ripley.
Buy or Sell?
Sell on WWE waiting until SmackDown. There’s an interesting story to be told if she comes back at SummerSlam and starts a feud, especially in front of such a big viewership. She was just a special referee for Jade Cargil at the Evolution 2 PLE, too. For what it’s worth, this also feels like one of those purposeful leaks in an effort to keep a surprise return on the hush, too.
More Jelly Roll?
5 of 5
The Rumor
The Jelly Roll buzz (new sentence unlocked, right?) just keeps coming. According to WrestleVotes (h/t Ortman), WWE has plans to bring back the musician well into 2026 in some capacity.
Reaction
The oddities around celebrity involvement continue. Jelly Roll already has a match on the Summerslam card, where he’ll team with Randy Orton against Drew McIntyre and Logan Paul. If the rumor is to be believed, WWE’s seeing something it really likes from him, considering the match hasn’t even happened yet.
Buy or Sell?
Buy. Is Netflix to blame for this? Or is it USA Network, since Jelly Roll has been appearing on SmackDown? Either way, it feels painfully obvious that he’ll keep popping up on WWE programming, even if it’s just little backstage segments here and there.
