Aaron Rodgers Reveals Taking Advice from 20-Year-Old Sister-in-Law Mia About Contract

Adam WellsAug 1, 2025

The Pittsburgh Steelers can thank Aaron Rodgers' sister-in-law for getting the four-time NFL MVP to sign with them in the offseason.

Speaking to The Athletic's Michael Silver, Rodgers joked that Mia, the 20-year-old sister of his wife, gave him "orders" to join the Steelers before giving her some genuine credit for the decision.

"I was taking orders from my (new) sister-in-law, Mia," Rodgers said. "She’s 20 and she’s the brains of the family; you just have to ask her. ... No—but that is partially serious for sure. Every team that I talked to, I said, 'Listen, if I play, I’m not going to take a ton of money. I’ve made a ton of money. I don’t need the money.'"

Even though Rodgers and the Steelers seemed like it was going to happen early in free agency, there was speculation coming off a rough 2024 season with the New York Jets that he could decide to retire.

Rodgers finally ended the suspense on June 7 when he signed a one-year, $13.7 million contract with the Steelers to be their starting quarterback this season. The future Hall of Famer also revealed after his first minicamp practice that he got married. He did say in December on The Pat McAfee Show he was dating a woman named Brittani, though it hasn't been confirmed she is the person he married.

Mia's wisdom and insight gives the Steelers some hope going into the 2025 season. They were seemingly waiting for Rodgers to make a decision, so they would have been in a rough spot without him.

The Steelers are hoping Rodgers can provide a boost to their quarterback production. They have made the playoffs in each of the past two years and four times in the previous five seasons, so they don't need him to play at an All-Pro level to succeed.

Rodgers will be looking to redeem himself in what could be his final season after a difficult two-year stint with the Jets. He finished 2024 with 3,897 passing yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
