Cam Newton Says He's 'Haunted' by Super Bowl Fumble Video, 'I'm So Embarrassed'

Zach BacharJul 31, 2025

Former NFL MVP Cam Newton revealed that he still thinks about his fumble in the fourth quarter of the Carolina Panthers' 24-10 loss to the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 50.

"I'm haunted with that daily," Newton told former quarterback Johnny Manziel on his Glory Daze podcast (28:59 mark).

Newton also explained that "I'm so embarrassed of that clip" (28:32 mark).

With the Panthers trailing by six points in the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl, Newton had the ball stripped by former Broncos pass-rusher Von Miller. As players attempted to lunge on the ball and gain possession, Newton pulled up and wasn't part of the pile.

The Broncos eventually recovered the ball and went on to score a touchdown, sealing their championship victory.

Newton helped lead the Panthers to a 15-1 record in 2015 and earned MVP honors, throwing for 3,837 yards and 35 touchdowns while picking up 636 yards and 10 more scores on the ground.

While the three-time Pro Bowl signal-caller's fumble generated plenty of attention following Carolina's Super Bowl defeat, former teammates such as Luke Kuechly and Greg Olsen have recently defended Newton's effort and competitiveness regarding the play.

The fumble particularly stings for the Panthers, as they've yet to win a playoff game since their Super Bowl run.
