Cam Ward Calls Titans' Offense 'Very Mid,' Says 'It Starts With Me' Amid Struggles

Paul KasabianJul 30, 2025

Tennessee Titans quarterback Cam Ward offered a blunt and honest assessment of the team's offense right now, but took ownership of the issues during a Wednesday chat with reporters at training camp (h/t ESPN's Turron Davenport).

"I just think we're very mid right now," Ward said on Wednesday. "At the end of the day, It all starts with me."

It's been a rough couple of days for Ward and the Titan offense, as outlined by Nick Suss of the Tennesseean.

Ward is in the nascent stages of his NFL career, so improvement should come with more time with his teammates and coaches. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft understands the importance of the work that lies ahead.

"I have to get on the same page with my receivers, watch more film, and be more accurate with the football," Ward also added, per Davenport.

Ward admitted that he isn't where he wants to be in his progression right now, per Davenport.

"It might not be where I wanted to be, but I'm throwing to 15, 16 different people every day," Ward said.

Suss also summarized some issues Ward is having.

"The good moments are there," Suss wrote. "But so are the balls tipped by linebackers into the waiting arms of defensive backs. And the moments where Ward gambles downfield and ends up overthrowing receivers in traffic. And the as-to-be-expected miscommunications as the rookie works to find his rhythm."

It's clear Ward is putting in the work to get where he needs to be, though. Per Davenport, Ward has been doing extra work after practice, notably nailing down his timing with wideouts Tyler Lockett, Xavier Restrepo and Bryce Oliver on Wednesday.

Ward also clearly has a great work ethic to improve his skill set.

No. 1 wideout Calvin Ridley is a post-practice target of Ward's, per Davenport, although that wasn't the case Wednesday after he suffered a right calf cramp and left practice early.

Of course, there's plenty of time remaining until the Titans visit the Denver Broncos for Week 1 of the NFL season on Sept. 7. Ward still has a host of practices remaining and assuredly will get some preseason action as well before he leads the Titans onto the field for the beginning of the 2025 campaign.
