Stephen Jones Says Cowboys 'Don't Drag Deals Out' amid Micah Parsons Contract Talks

Andrew PetersJul 29, 2025

Despite star pass rusher Micah Parsons still waiting for a new contract, Dallas Cowboys COO and co-owner Stephen Jones said his team doesn't "drag deals out."

“We don’t drag deals out,” Cowboys COO and co-owner Stephen Jones told 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, via Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram (h/t Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio). “We do deals when there’s an opportunity to do a deal. Certainly, no one knows what’s going on... internally with agents. Sometimes players and agents aren’t ready to pull the trigger until they see other cards play.”

While Jones claims he and the Cowboys waste no time giving their stars deals, that hasn't been the case in recent years.

Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb was a training camp holdout last year until Dallas finally gave him a new deal in late August. Quarterback Dak Prescott had to play the long game after his rookie year, as the Cowboys franchise tagged him twice before awarding him his second contract.

While Parsons would likely prefer to get a new contract sooner rather than later, it could end up working out in his favor. The market for pass rushers has already been reset thanks to recent deals for Myles Garrett, Maxx Crosby and T.J. Watt, so Parsons should earn more than he would have if he had signed earlier this offseason.

If he puts together another Defensive Player of the Year-caliber season in 2025, he could command a market-resetting deal of his own.
