Cowboys' Tyler Guyton Reportedly Out 4-6 Weeks With Leg Injury, LT Did Not Tear ACL

Timothy RappJul 28, 2025

The Dallas Cowboys dodged a major bullet on Monday.

Starting offensive tackle Tyler Guyton suffered a leg injury that was initially feared to be a torn ACL, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, but was later diagnosed as a bone fracture with a 4-6 week recovery timeline:

Guyton operated as the team's starter for 15 games last year after being the 29th overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft. It was an up-and-down campaign for Guyton, who shifted from the right side in college to left tackle. He also dealt with knee and shoulder injuries in his opening campaign.

Still, he was penalized 18 times and was ranked 62 in PFF's pass-blocking grades, with a 6.5 percent pressure rate and 1.5 percent sack rate (both extremely poor numbers).

"I didn't do too good last year," Guyton told reporters in May. "I want to do better. I want to be a guy that can be depended on."

Hopes were high around the team heading into 2025.

"He's having a terrific offseason," head coach Brian Schottenheimer told reporters in June. "He's working his ass off. He looks great."

The Cowboys addressed a number of offensive needs in the offseason, trading for wideout George Pickens and drafting offensive lineman Tyler Booker to take over at right guard. While Dak Prescott's injury woes were the offense's biggest concern in 2024, the play of the offensive line wasn't great either.

Much was resting on Guyton showing improvement and Booker proving he could handle right guard duties. A torn ACL would have created a huge need at left tackle.

Among the internal options to replace him in the short term are Asim Richards, Hakeem Adeniji, Matt Waletzko and Ajani Cornelius. The Cowboys will be relieved that Guyton's injury doesn't appear to be a season-ending issue.
