Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
NFL insider Jordan Schultz previously reported that Sutton and the Broncos had "made significant progress" in negotiations for a contract extension in recent days. Multiple sources said a deal was expected to get done "sooner than later."
Broncos head coach Sean Payton also told reporters on Monday that the Broncos and Sutton were "real close on a contract." He added that he and general manager George Paton planned to meet with Sutton later in the day and said, "I think there’ll be something fairly soon here."
Sutton was entering the final year of his deal and was scheduled to make just $14 million during the 2025 season. He proved during the 2024 campaign that he can be a major piece of the franchise as Denver continues to build around quarterback Bo Nix.
Despite playing with a rookie signal-caller, Sutton finished last season with a career-high 81 catches for 1,081 yards and eight touchdowns. The veteran provided a security blanket for the 2024 No. 12 pick, and Nix helped power the Broncos to a 10-7 record and their first playoff appearance since their Super Bowl win in 2015.
Keeping the connection between Nix and Sutton alive for the next few years could help the Broncos establish themselves as perennial playoff contenders for the foreseeable future.
