Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese Out for Fever-Sky with Injuries, Mitchell Shines in Win
WNBA fans were perhaps disappointed that Caitlin Clark (groin) and Angel Reese (back) were unable to renew their famous rivalry in Sunday's matchup between the Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky due to injuries.
But Kelsey Mitchell put on quite the show in their stead.
The Fever guard went off for 35 points and six assists in her team's 93-78 victory over the Sky, finishing an impressive 7-of-10 from beyond the arc.

Rachel Banham (26 points, five assists) and Kamilla Cardoso (12 points, 12 rebounds) paced the Sky.
The Fever moved to 14-12 on the season and are now 7-7 on the year without Clark in the lineup. After her impressive Rookie of the Year campaign in 2024, Clark has been beset by injury this season and has now missed four games in a row with a groin injury.
Reese has not been regularly affected by injuries, appearing in 22 of Chicago's 25 games, though her current back issue has sidelined her for two contests in a row. It's been a disappointing season for the Sky in general, however, as the team dropped to 7-18 on the year with Sunday's loss.
Reese has done her part, averaging 13.8 points, 12.5 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game while remaining one of the faces of the league, though her offensive efficiency has remained a struggle. But the Sky find themselves mired in a five-game losing streak and are hurtling toward a third straight losing season.
They certainly had no answers for Mitchell on Sunday. The Fever's top scorer this season (19.6 PPG) had little trouble putting the ball through the hoop, especially from range. Her ability to lead the offense alongside Aliyah Boston (15.4 PPG, 7.8 RPG, 1.0 BPG) has helped mitigate Clark's mounting absences.
The Fever, this year's Commissioner's Cup champions, are currently sixth in the WNBA standings and seem likely to return to the postseason. Whether they can make any noise come the playoffs will hinge on whether Clark is healthy, but Mitchell and Co. have shown they can at least keep the ship steady in the interim.
