Jets' Breece Hall Doesn't Expect Contract Extension Before Season, 'Got to Prove it'

Paul KasabianJul 26, 2025

New York Jets running back Breece Hall is entering the final year of his rookie deal, but he doesn't expect to land a contract extension before this season begins,

"I'm not really expecting it before the season," Hall told reporters Saturday, per Kevin Patra of NFL.com.

"We got a new head coach (Aaron Glenn), new GM (Darren Mougey). Obviously, I wasn't drafted by them, I'm not their guy. So for me, like I said, I've got to prove it every day. For me, I've got a chip on my shoulder. I feel like right now, OK, it's my last chance. For me, it's always been, 'he's got potential, he's got potential,' but now I want to be the product. It's all about putting my head down and working. I don't really want to discuss all the other stuff. For me, I just try to worry about ball right now."

Hall amassed 1,359 yards from scrimmage and eight touchdowns last season. On the ground, the ex-Iowa State star rushed for 876 yards and five touchdowns on 209 carries (4.2 YPC). Through the air, Hall caught 57 passes for 483 yards and three scores.

Hall was productive through 16 games, although his rushing efficiency has gone down over the last few years (5.8 YPC in his rookie year and 4.5 YPC in 2023). Hall was on pace for a phenomenal rookie season in 2023 but unfortunately suffered a torn ACL in his seventh game, ending his season. He still gained 681 total yards and scored five touchdowns on just 99 touches.

The 24-year-old Hall still enters this year as the Jets' clear starting running back, with Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis behind him on the depth chart. It's a prove-it season for Hall, ultimately, as he enters a contract year and hopes for a lucrative second deal.

Hall's certainly capable of earning it, though, whether it's with the Jets or another team. He's been productive and reliable after his injury-shortened season and now looks for another solid campaign in his first season under new head coach Aaron Glenn.
