Jets' Aaron Glenn Says Justin Fields Is Day-to-Day, Downplays Severity of Toe Injury

Julia StumbaughJul 25, 2025

New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn downplayed initial reports of the injury Justin Fields suffered during Thursday's practice by saying on Friday the quarterback will be "day-to-day" with a dislocated toe.

"The huge storm that was created really made no sense, and I think that's really a lesson for all of us of, let's just wait until we get the diagnosis," Glenn said at the 6:00 mark of his Friday press conference.

Fields left Thursday's training camp practice on a cart after suffering an apparent injury, according to multiple reports.

The quarterback returned to the practice field on Friday but sat out quarterback drills as the Jets turned to backup Tyrod Taylor instead, per ESPN's Rich Cimini.

Glenn initially told reporters on Thursday that Fields had suffered an injury to "a toe on his right side," and that he believed the incident occurred when someone stepped on the quarterback's foot.

When asked about Fields' return timeline on Friday, Glenn answered, "I wanna make sure that, between all of us, that we have a conversation to see exactly what needs to be done for him to get ready to come back.

"We want to make sure we get as many reps as we can with him. So, when he's ready to come back, we'll make sure he's out on the field."

Cimini previously reported that Fields had participated in just five reps with the team before his injury on Thursday, during which he was sacked and threw an incomplete pass in what the ESPN reporter called a "shaky start" to practice.

The Jets have lost quarterbacks to early-season injuries in two of the last three years, with Zach Wilson undergoing knee surgery after suffering a non-contact injury in the 2022 preseason and Aaron Rodgers missing the entirety of the 2023 campaign after suffering a torn Achilles tendon on his fourth snap of Week 1.

Now that the team has received relatively good news in terms of the severity of Fields' injury, Glenn will hope to get the quarterback as soon as possible in order to help him continue adjusting to Tanner Engstrand's offense ahead of their first season in New York.
