Aaron Rodgers Says He Has 'Good Relationship' with DK Metcalf Entering Steelers Season
Despite Aaron Rodgers’ first-ever pass attempt to wide receiver DK Metcalf getting picked off at training camp on Thursday, the two are expected to build chemistry as their relationship off the field begins to translate on it.
"DK and I have worked out in the offseason together, got a good relationship," Rodgers said, per ESPSN's Brooke Pryor. "We talked about a lot of football stuff. We FaceTime, we texted during the offseason after many camps, so we've got a good relationship. It's going to just keep on growing."
Despite Rodgers entering his 21st NFL season and DK Metcalf his sixth, the two have never shared the field as teammates — until now. They're connecting for the first time in Pittsburgh, building chemistry quickly thanks in part to head coach Mike Tomlin, who assigned them as suite mates in the dorms at St. Vincent College during training camp.

"I was secretly hoping it wasn't a big lineman or something," Rodgers said, per Pryor. "Maybe somebody had cared about their hygiene a little bit. So when I walked in I saw a standard suitcase. I said, 'Oh, I think it's going to be good. This is probably DK.'"
Metcalf was also happy with the pairing.
"He knocked on my door, and I thought it was the front door, and it was actually my bathroom door," Metcalf said, per Pryor. "He was like, 'Oh man, I was hoping it was you.' I was like, 'I did not think I was going to have a roommate, but glad to see you, too.'
"It was a good experience just to see his face and knowing that we could continue conversations outside the meeting room," Metcalf continued.
Metcalf, Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers will kick off their season on the road against Rodgers’ former team, the New York Jets, on Sept. 7.
