According to Bailey Leasure of ArizonaSports.com, Russell was injured after a collision with Kitan Crawford during 7-on-7 drills at Thursday's practice.

"You never want to see anybody in that situation," linebacker Mack Wilson Sr. told reporters of the injury. "You've got guys out there competing to earn a spot on the team and stuff like that happens, it's unfortunate. It's football. All we can do is just love on him, let him know that we're here for him."

Head coach Jonathan Gannon ended the practice after the injury.

Russell, 26, signed a one-year, $1.1 million contract with the Cardinals this offseason after spending the past three seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The former undrafted free agent registered 49 tackles (one for loss), a sack, a quarterback hit, two passes defensed and a fumble recovery in 30 games (four starts) during his time in Tampa.

He has generally been utilized as a special-teams contributor and is expected to potentially continue that role in Arizona while providing depth at linebacker.
