Chelsea Transfer News: New Loic Remy Rumours Emerge, Latest on Charles Aranguiz

Gianni VerschuerenJul 14, 2015

Chelsea striker Loic Remy is reportedly open to the idea of a transfer to Crystal Palace, as rumours of his potential departure continue to emerge at an increasing rate.

According to the Daily Express' Bruce Archer, the French media believe Remy would love to work under Alan Pardew again, having previously played for the manager at Newcastle United:

"

He had been linked with West Ham, a return to Newcastle and to a number of clubs abroad including Besiktas.

However reports in France now claim Remy is keen to stay in London and would be willing to work with Alan Pardew again if a deal could be done.

Remy spent the 2013/14 season at Newcastle under Pardew where he scored 14 times in 26 appearances.

The 28-year-old had a solid first season at Stamford Bridge, looking like a viable option off the bench and replacing starter Diego Costa in several key matches. Remy is a quality backup and a player manager Jose Mourinho would much rather keep in the squad, but the arrival of Radamel Falcao complicates matters.

The Colombian has struggled to find form since suffering a knee injury ahead of the 2014 World Cup, but Mourinho wouldn't have signed the striker if he didn't believe he could turn his situation around.

Bleacher Report's Jonathan Johnson thinks if there's one manager who could do it, it's the Special One:

That doesn't mean there's no longer any room for Remy or that he will be demoted in the pecking order, but it would be understandable if the Frenchman felt his future would be best served elsewhere.

He's never going to be a regular starter at Stamford Bridge, and if he believes Mourinho would be willing to use Falcao as the main backup, a move wouldn't be out of the question. And in that case, a transfer to Crystal Palace would become an appealing prospect.

The Eagles have enjoyed a fantastic summer window so far, highlighted by the arrival of Yohan Cabaye. According to Squawka's Greg Lea, it's an incredible signing that could lead to even bigger and better things:

"

Nevertheless, the Frenchman is an extremely talented player who would be a regular starter for the majority of teams in the Premier League; indeed, Cabaye represents a major coup for Palace and could potentially act as a catalyst to persuade other transfer targets of the club’s ambitions, with the likes of Loic Remy and Charlie Austin currently being linked with a move to the south Londoners, as per the Guardian.

"

A reunion with Pardew and the opportunity to keep living in London are two big reasons why the Eagles would be an appealing destination for Remy, and given their activity during the summer, all signs point to a successful season at Selhurst.

The question is whether the Blues would want to sell. Chelsea will be gunning for Champions League glory and defending their Premier League title simultaneously, and depth is key to being successful in both competitions. Remy is a valuable asset: the type of player who can play a big role during the season with just one or two key appearances.

Crystal Palace's super summer has been something to watch, but don't expect the club to announce the signing of Remy any time soon. Unless the player publicly states his desire to start, he's likely to stay with Chelsea for now.

Blues Reportedly Closing In on Charles Aranguiz

According to reports from South America (h/t Daily Telegraph), the Blues have persuaded Internacional to sell Copa America star Charles Aranguiz, and a deal for the Chile international could be close.

The 26-year-old was one of the standout performers for eventual winners Chile, and naturally, his transfer stock is as high as ever. He's frequently compared to compatriot and Juventus star Arturo Vidal, and according to former Universidad de Chile Sporting Director Andres Lagos, luck is the main reason why the latter has had the bigger career so far, via uMAXit's Jack Rathborn:

Aranguiz is a likely candidate to leave the Brazilian league during the summer, although a move to a club where he'll be an immediate starter seems more likely. Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas are near-locks to start for the Blues in the centre of the pitch, and Aranguiz would find it hard to break that partnership.

It also bears mentioning that reports like these have been surfacing for some time now, with Metro's Jamie Sanderson claiming the deal was done a week ago, and we've yet to see any photo of Aranguiz holding up a Chelsea shirt. It's the silly season after all, and these kind of stories tend to take on a life of their own.

In all likelihood, Aranguiz will move to a smaller club where he'll have a chance to make a name for himself on the European level, or at the very least to a team with a clear need at the position. This is his one chance to prove he belongs among the very best midfielders in the game, and it makes little sense to try that from the Blues bench.
