Jets' Justin Fields Avoids Serious Toe Injury, Day-to-Day After Being Carted Off
On just the second day of training camp practice, the New York Jets had a major injury scare.
Quarterback Justin Fields was carted off after suffering a toe injury on his right foot during Thursday's practice session. The team announced Fields suffered a dislocated toe. According to the Jets, he "avoided serious injury and significant missed time."
Fields was carted back to the locker room after limping off the practice field early in the session. ESPN's Rich Cimini reported that Fields was riding in the passenger seat of the cart and not on the back, the latter of which is customary for more serious injuries.

NFL coach calls CFB transfer players 'clowns'
Newsday's Al Iannazzone reported that Fields was able to walk into the Jets facility under his own power after being carted back.
Connor Hughes of SNY explained that it's unclear what exactly caused Fields' injury, as the Jets first team returned to the field for just one play before he went down. He reportedly "stood up, sat down, then stood up before he limped off the field [very] gingerly."
The Jets signed Fields to a two-year, $40 million deal this offseason and immediately named him the starting quarterback for the 2025 campaign. The team's new regime of first-year head coach Aaron Glenn and first-year general manager Darren Mougey had high hopes that the 2021 No. 11 pick would finally put it all together after his up-and-down four-year career.
Fields' injury so early into training camp undoubtedly conjures up painful memories for Jets fans who watched quarterback Aaron Rodgers tear his Achilles just four plays into the 2023 season. New York has endured a lengthy run of misfortune with 14 straight years without a postseason appearance, the longest active streak in the NFL.
If Fields is sidelined for a lengthy amount of time, veteran backup Tyrod Taylor will take over the offense for the Jets until he's able to return. The team will surely be hoping that Fields' injury isn't too serious and he will be able to return to the field for the 2025 season.
