Browns' Myles Garrett Says He Expects to Reach Super Bowl, Win NFL DPOY This Season

Scott PolacekJul 23, 2025

It's safe to say Myles Garrett is setting the bar high this season.

"I expect to get to the Super Bowl," Garrett told reporters Wednesday. "That's our expectation every year. I expect to run back the Defensive Player of the Year...I have to be the very best player I can be every single day."

While the idea of the Browns making the Super Bowl may sound far-fetched on its surface, they are just one season removed from going 11-6 and reaching the playoffs during the 2023 campaign. Joe Flacco was also the quarterback for that late-season playoff push, and he is back and competing for the starting job this year.

Joining him is Kenny Pickett, as well as rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders.

All eyes will be on that quarterback battle during training camp, but Cleveland's best chance at remaining competitive in the daunting AFC North that also features the Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers will be through excellent defense.

After all, Garrett and Co. will be facing offenses led by Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson and Aaron Rodgers just inside of the division alone and will need to find a way to slow them down so their own offense can keep pace.

Having Garrett up front is an excellent way to do just that.

His resume includes the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year, six Pro Bowl selections and four First-Team All-Pro nods. He has posted double-digit sacks totals in each of the last seven seasons, including last year when he finished with 14.

Cleveland will surely be happy to hear he is still plenty motivated given Wednesday's comments after he agreed to a contract extension that temporarily made him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history with an average annual value of $40 million.

However, division rivals Ja'Marr Chase and T.J. Watt have since surpassed that total with their own extensions.

The Watt one was notable since the Steelers' pass-rusher won the 2021 Defensive Player of the Year and once again figures to be a contender alongside Garrett.

But Garrett made it clear he doesn't plan on losing the award this season.
