Tiffany Stratton beat Jade Cargill on Night 1 of SummerSlam on Saturday to retain the WWE Women's Championship.

Stratton hit Cargill with a nice swanton bomb but couldn't get the pin.

Later on, Cargill countered the Prettiest Moonsault Ever and then hit the Jaded finisher, but Stratton got her leg on the rope to stop the pin attempt.

Stratton eventually finished the match off by countering another Jaded attempt—this time from the middle turnbuckle—and delivered the Prettiest Moonsault Ever for the victory.

Two months ago, Cargill entered the Queen of the Ring tournament in an effort to earn a women's title opportunity at SummerSlam.

She impressively made her way through the tourney, beating many of the best women's wrestlers WWE has to offer. She won a Fatal 4-Way against Nia Jax, Michin and Piper Niven in the first round, and followed it up with a win over Roxanne Perez in the semifinals.

At Night of Champions, Cargill clashed with one of the all-time greats in Asuka, and she made a statement by defeating The Empress of Tomorrow to win Queen of the Ring honors and earn a championship match.

Evolution took place shortly after Night of Champions, and Stratton was given the option to choose her opponent at the second all-women's premium live event in WWE history.

Tiffany surprised the WWE Universe by picking WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus, who teamed with her in a winning effort at Elimination Chamber in March.

Cargill confronted both of them to make it clear she intended to take the women's title from whoever left Evolution with it, but it quickly became apparent that The Storm had some unfinished business to take care of first.

Naomi attacked Cargill backstage, continuing a rivalry that began last year when The Glow threw Jade onto the windshield of a car and put her on the shelf for months.

That led to a No Holds Barred match at Evolution, which Cargill won, while Stratton was successful in defending the WWE Women's Championship against Stratus as well.

SummerSlam played host to a battle between two of the most physically impressive and dominant women in WWE, and it was Stratton who outlasted Cargill to continue her title reign.
