Cowboys' Trevon Diggs Explains Injury Rehab Decision After Losing $500K Contract Bonus

Timothy RappJul 22, 2025

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs gave up $500,000 of his $9 million salary in 2025 after failing to be available for over 84 percent of the team's offseason program as he rehabilitates from the cartilage issue that ended his 2024 campaign.

"I didn't expect that. That kinda hurt my feelings," Diggs told reporters regarding the loss in salary. "But it's OK, hopefully I can make it back in incentives."

Generally, players are given workout bonuses they can earn by attending offseason workouts and programs rather than having contract reductions written into their deals. But Jerry Jones and the Cowboys do things their own way, and the team's owner didn't exactly paint a sympathetic picture while speaking on the subject Monday.

"He didn't earn it, he didn't come," Jones said of the reduction. "That's in his contract that he doesn't get that unless he's going to be here… those are contractual things... it would be very detrimental to the team not to abide by the agreement."

Perhaps, but at a time when the team still hasn't come to terms with Micah Parsons on a long-term extension—living up to its reputation for delaying such extensions and watching as those positional markets increase dramatically in the process—the optics of docking Diggs $500,000 aren't exactly great.
