Micah Parsons Gives Update on Cowboys Contract Talks After Reporting to Training Camp

Paul KasabianJul 22, 2025

Dallas Cowboys defensive end Micah Parsons has shown up to his team's training camp despite his desire for a contract extension, which has not materialized.

On Tuesday, Parsons was asked his thoughts about the contract talks:

"I mean honestly, you know, for me, it really don't matter," Parsons began.

"Like I said, I've pretty consistent. If they don't want me here, they don't want me here, I'll go about my business, I understand the nature of the business.

"Like I said, as long as I'm here and under contract, I'm gonna do what I do to perform at the highest level, but if this is the end, this is the end, you know?"

Parsons then said that he needs to take care of his family, which includes three children, much like owner Jerry Jones and his two sons, Stephen and Jerry Jr., need to take care of their families.

The ex-Penn State star also provided an update on the talks. In sum, there isn't much to report.

The 26-year-old Parsons is entering the final season of a five-year rookie deal. He is a four-time Pro Bowler and two-time First-Team All-Pro who has amassed 52.5 sacks, 112 quarterback hits and 256 tackles.

The Cowboys have gutted through some tough contract negotiations that played out in the media recently with quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver Cee Dee Lamb landing long-term deals. Now Parsons is up next.

It would obviously be wise for the Cowboys to sign Parsons to an extension this summer. He's been the driving force for the Dallas defense for four years. In the year prior to his arrival (2020), Dallas finished 28th in scoring defense. That figure improved to seventh in 2021, Parsons' rookie year, before landing at fifth in 2022 and 2023.

The defense took a big step back in 2024 (No. 31), largely due to a host of key injuries and the departure of defensive coordinator Dan Quinn to become the Washington Commanders' head coach, but Parsons is still an invaluable member of the Dallas defense. He's their top pass-rusher (no other returning Cowboy had more than five sacks last year) and lone defensive 2024 Pro Bowler.

We'll see if anything transpires soon. For now, there doesn't seem to be a light at the end of the tunnel, although Parsons is still participating in training camp and being present for his teammates, as he noted. That could certainly change with time, of course, and there's still plenty of that before Dallas starts the season on Sept. 4 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
