Jamal Adams, Raiders Reportedly Agree to Contract, Reunites with Pete Carroll

Timothy RappJul 22, 2025

Jamal Adams and Pete Carroll are reunited once more.

The veteran safety is reportedly signing with the Las Vegas Raiders, per Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, after spending time with the Tennessee Titans and Detroit Lions in the 2024 season.

Adams, 29, started his career with the New York Jets in 2017, where he was a two-time Pro Bowler and a a 2019 first-team All-Pro selection at safety.

He was traded to Carroll's Seattle Seahawks ahead of the 2020 campaign, alongside a a 2022 fourth-round pick, for safety Bradley McDougald, first- and third-round picks in 2021 and a 2022 first-rounder.

Adams promptly earned Pro Bowl honors in the 2020 season and signed a four-year, $70 million contract the following offseason. It was downhill from there, however, as Adams played in just 34 of a possible 66 games in his time with the Seahawks before he was released following the 2024 campaign.

The Seahawks moved on from Carroll that same offseason, and after a year away from coaching, he was hired as Las Vegas' head coach.

It's unclear if Adams has much left in the tank, meanwhile. He played in just three games for the Titans last year (one start), registering just four tackles, before Tennessee cut him in October after he was placed on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list. Injuries again limited him during his brief stint with the Titans.

The Lions, beset by injuries throughout their defense, signed him in early December to their practice squad and he ultimately made two starts for the team, registering three tackles. He was released in early January after a number of defensive players returned from injury, however, and remained a free agent for much of the offseason.

Expecting Adams to return to the Pro Bowl form he showcased early in his career is unrealistic, but if he can stay healthy, he'll at least provide the Raiders with experience and depth.
