Charlie Woods shot a 3-over 74 on the second day of the U.S. Junior Amateur Championships on Tuesday, moving into a tie for 221st place.

Woods, the son of Tiger Woods, opened the tournament by shooting an 81, moving him well down the leaderboard right out of the gate. He will not qualify for Thursday's Round of 64 match play.

At the time of publication, Ben Bolton led the field at six under, though a number of players had yet to complete the second round, including Kailer Stone, who shot a 5-under 66 on Monday.

Woods, 16, has now competed in the past two U.S. Junior Amateur Championships, missing the cut on both occasions. His round on Tuesday was a major improvement from past showings, however, after he shot an 82 and 80 last year and an 81 on Monday.

Woods is coming off a victory at the AJGA Team TaylorMade Invitational in May, impressing with a final-round 66. He defeated a number of highly-regarded young players at that tournament, including Miles Russell, Luke Colton and Tyler Watts. Russell (-2) and Watts (-5) are both through to the Round of 64, while Colton was two over at the time of publication and in a tie for 45th through six holes.

Barring a rough stretch, he is in an excellent position to move on to match play as well.
