49ers' Shanahan Gives Christian McCaffrey, Brandon Aiyuk Injury Updates to Start Camp
As the San Francisco 49ers prepare for the start of training camp this week, two of their star players had contrasting injury updates.
49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters on Tuesday that star running back Christian McCaffrey is "here and healthy," along with stalwart left tackle Trent Williams. On the other end of the spectrum, general manager John Lynch announced that star receiver Brandon Aiyuk is "not anywhere close to having a concrete timeline" for his recovery from his knee injuries.
Aiyuk suffered a torn ACL and MCL in Week 7 of the 2024 season. He finished the year with 25 catches for 374 yards and no touchdowns. San Francisco had signed him to a four-year, $120 million contract extension prior to the start of the season.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
McCaffrey was limited to four games after missing the start of the year with Achilles tendonitis and suffering a PCL injury upon his return. He didn't score a touchdown for the first time in his eight-year career, just one season after he earned the NFL Offensive Player of Year award.
The injury-riddled campaign resulted in a 6-11 finish to the 2024 season for the 49ers. Getting McCaffrey back in the lineup will certainly help San Francisco return to playoff contention in 2025, but Aiyuk's continued absence raises major questions about the team's receiving corps.
