Bills Announce Return of Red Helmets for 2025 Uniforms in New Josh Allen Photo

Per Alec White of the Bills' official website, the team will wear the red helmets in Week 18 against the New York Jets to celebrate the final regular-season game at Highmark Stadium.
The Bills wore red helmets with white facemasks from 1987 through 2001 before switching back to white helmets, which they initially wore from 1962 to 1983.
Buffalo wore red helmets with blue facemasks from 1984 to 1986 before transitioning to the more popular red-and-white look.
The red helmets with white facemasks were worn during the most successful period in Bills history, as they reached four consecutive Super Bowls from 1990 to 1993.
Although Buffalo lost all four of those Super Bowls, it remains the only franchise to ever reach four in a row.
From 1988 to 1999, which encompasses nearly all of the red-and-white helmet era, the Bills went 124-68 with six division titles, 10 playoff appearances and four trips to the Super Bowl.
Those teams also produced several Hall of Famers, including quarterback Jim Kelly, running back Thurman Thomas, wide receivers Andre Reed and James Lofton, defensive end Bruce Smith and head coach Marv Levy.
While the Bills have not been back to the Super Bowl since the 1993 season, they are currently in the midst of a run that is rivaling what they did in the early 1990s.
Led by the reigning NFL MVP in quarterback Josh Allen, the Bills have made six straight playoff appearances and won five consecutive AFC East titles.
In addition to wearing the red helmets to close out the 2025 season, the Bills will wear their throwback "Standing Buffalo" uniforms twice during the upcoming campaign.
Based on the uniforms they wore from 1962 to 1973, the Standing Buffalo unis are highlighted by a white helmet emblazoned with the silhouette of a red buffalo.
The jerseys and pants also include the Bills' trademark red, white and blue color scheme.
Buffalo initially brought back that uniform combination as an alternate in 2005 and wore them sporadically through the 2021 season.
The Standing Buffalo uniforms are scheduled to be worn twice during the 2025 season: On the road against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 5 and at home against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 11.
