Twins Reportedly Would Need to Be 'Blown Away' by Ryan, Duran Trade Offers Amid Rumors

Joseph ZuckerJul 22, 2025

The Minnesota Twins "have to be blown away" in order to budge on trade offers involving starting pitcher Joe Ryan or closer Jhoan Durán, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman.

Ryan, who was an All-Star for the first time this year, is 10-4 with a 2.63 ERA and 132 strikeouts over 116.1 innings. Durán has notched 15 saves and allowed just eight earned runs in 44.1 innings of work.

The Twins sit fourth in the American League Central at 48-52 and they've five games off the final wild-card spot. On the spectrum of buyers and sellers, they could plausibly land on either side.

"Several executives from other clubs have said they think the Twins would deal either Jhoan Duran or Griffin Jax from their bullpen if they get an overwhelming offer," The Athletic's Jim Bowden reported Monday. "However, if they strictly become buyers because they play well over the next stretch, they’ll likely target a right-handed-hitting supplemental corner outfielder and a back-of-the-rotation starter or bullpen depth."

Ryan and Durán are both eligible for arbitration in 2026 and 2027 as well, which lessens Minnesota's urgency to move either arm.

When three of the Twins' more notable veterans (pitcher Pablo López, shortstop Carlos Correa and center fielder Byron Buxton) are all signed for multiple seasons, pivoting toward a full fire sale doesn't make a lot of sense.

Moving Ryan or Durán would at least be practical if it helps Minnesota strengthen in other areas of the field or bolster a farm system that Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter ranked as the 12th-best in MLB.

Based on Heyman's report, it doesn't sound likely the Twins will cash in on two of their best trade assets.
