Nationals All-Star Mackenzie Gore Reportedly Eyed by Teams amid MLB Trade Rumors

Zach BacharJul 21, 2025

The Washington Nationals have received calls from "several teams" regarding a trade for starting pitcher Mackenzie Gore, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

Per Heyman, it's "probably a long shot" that Gore is dealt but still "worth teams trying."

The 26-year-old is in the midst of a breakout year in Washington, as he was named an All-Star for the first time in his career.

Despite Gore's 4-9 record in 20 starts, he owns a 3.59 ERA and 1.269 WHIP. He's also averaging a career-high 11.2 strikeouts per nine innings.

While Gore allowed eight earned runs in just 2.1 innings of work during Washington's loss to the San Diego Padres on Sunday, he gave up a mere 16 earned runs over his prior 10 starts.

The reported interest from opposing teams likely also stems from his promising career trajectory, as his ERA has decreased during each of his four years in the majors.

While the Nationals sit at the bottom of the National League East standings with a 39-60 record, they could be hesitant to move Gore with two years of team control left on his contract before he's slated to hit unrestricted free agency in 2028.

The 2025 MLB trade deadline will be on July 31 at 6 p.m. ET.
