Phil Mickelson Praises Scheffler for British Open Win After Doubting Star in March
Six-time major winner Phil Mickelson congratulated Scottie Scheffler for emerging victorious in the 2025 British Open on Sunday.
In a post on X, Mickelson called Scheffler's win an "impressive victory."
He previously wasn't confident in Scheffler's success, though.
"Does Scottie win in 2025 before the Ryder Cup? I don’t think so," Mickelson wrote in a post on March 16.
Scheffler was dominant throughout his 2025 appearance at Royal Portrush, winning by four strokes. He became the fourth player in Open Championship history to shoot 68 or better in all four rounds (h/t ESPN).
As for Mickelson, he finished in a tie for the No. 56 spot on the leaderboard by recording scores of 70, 72, 76 and 67 in each round respectively. The 55-year-old wrapped up an impressive fourth-round performance, racking up four birdies on Sunday.
Scheffler has looked sharp throughout his 2025 campaign, with his Open win representing his second major victory of the year after winning the PGA Championship in May.
While Mickelson praised Scheffler for his latest triumph, his earlier prediction continued to age poorly.
