49ers' Brandon Aiyuk, Ricky Pearsall Placed on PUP List to Open Camp amid Injury Rehab

Zach BacharJul 18, 2025

The San Francisco 49ers placed wide receivers Brandon Aiyuk and Ricky Pearsall on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list entering training camp, the team announced Friday.

Aiyuk is recovering from a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee that he suffered in Oct. 2024.

Meanwhile, Pearsall sustained a hamstring injury in offseason workouts that previously kept him out of OTAs.

Aiyuk's placement doesn't come as a major surprise, with 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan telling reporters on June 10 that he would likely begin the 2025 season on the PUP list (via Taylor Wirth of NBC Sports Bay Area).

If that's the case, he'll miss San Francisco's first four games of the regular season.

The latest update for Pearsall is concerning, especially since 49ers general manager John Lynch seemed optimistic about his recovery timeline during a KNBR radio appearance in May.

"I'm sure if it were the regular season, we'd be pushing to get him back next week," Lynch said at the time (h/t David Bonilla of 49ers Webzone). "It's not worth it right now. We want that thing to really heal up, and we'll get him healthy for training camp. But he's put in a lot of quality work."

Pearsall can be activated off the PUP list at anytime during training camp, but he won't be ready to start it.

He's coming off a promising rookie season in San Francisco, hauling in 31 receptions for 400 yards and three touchdowns in 11 games.

Aiyuk caught 25 passes for 374 yards in seven appearances before suffering his injury in 2024.

Veterans are set to report for San Francisco's training camp on Tuesday.
