Chargers' Justin Herbert to Wear UV Protection Contact Lenses to See Field Better
Justin Herbert is adopting new equipment this season in an effort to see the field better.
Per ESPN's Kris Rhim, the Los Angeles Chargers quarterback will wear UV protection contact lenses to reduce the impact of the sun on his vision. According to Rhim, Herbert, like many players, wore a tinted visor in his helmet a few years ago, but didn't like how much he had to wipe off the visor.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
According to Rhim, Herbert started wearing the contact lenses during the team's rookie camp practices earlier this week. He's already started to notice improvements in how he sees the field.
"I didn't have to squint nearly as much," he said. "When I stepped into the huddle, I think some of the guys were a little surprised. Think they were like, 'Oh, we're gonna score.'"
Herbert's plan of wearing the contact lenses isn't set in stone just yet, as he still has to check to make sure the new equipment is within league rules, according to Rhim.
Even without the contact lenses, Herbert has enjoyed a fantastic start to his career. He's thrown for 3,000 or more yards in each of his five seasons, including in 2023 when he played just 13 games.
Last year, Herbert collected 3,870 yards, 23 touchdowns and just three interceptions. His best season remains his second year in the league when he threw for 5,014 yards and 38 touchdowns. With the help of his new contact lenses, Herbert will look to achieve that kind of success in 2025.
The Chargers saw improvement in their first year of the Jim Harbaugh era, going 11-6 but losing in the wild-card round. Los Angeles hasn't made it past the wild-card round since 2018, but Herbert could be the quarterback that finally helps the Bolts find postseason success.
