Seth Rollins Says He 'Might' Be at WWE SummerSlam amid Rumors Injury is a Work

Mike ChiariJul 17, 2025

Despite suffering a knee injury during his match against LA Knight at Saturday Night's Main Event, Mr. Money in the Bank Seth Rollins said Wednesday that he may be present for SummerSlam on Aug. 2 and 3.

Appearing on the Rich Eisen Show (h/t Subhojeet Mukherjee of Ringside News), Rollins said he "might" be at SummerSlam since his wife, Becky Lynch, is scheduled to wrestle on the show:

"To be fair, I might be there. My wife is wrestling Lyra Valkyria for the [Women's] Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam. So, we'll see. Depending on how this goes, if traveling is easy enough, I might make my way out to—we're at MetLife. We're outside New York, New Jersey for two nights, SummerSlam in August. So, we'll see."

Rollins also provided an update on his injury during the show, saying he felt his knee "pop and buckle" during his loss to Knight. Rollins, who required crutches and a knee brace afterward, noted that while imaging has been unclear thus far due to swelling, he believes he will be "out for an extended period of time."

The Visionary's comments came amid rumors and speculation that he and WWE were perhaps exaggerating the severity of his injury as part of a storyline.

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t Randall Ortman of Cageside Seats) said earlier this week that someone he trusts told him they heard about an injury angle being planned for the Rollins vs. Knight match days before Saturday Night's Main Event.

Also, Bryan Alvarez said on Wrestling Observer Live (h/t Mukherjee) that he has been told Rollins has a "minor," pre-existing knee injury that will require some time off, and that Rollins injuring his knee against Knight has indeed an angle.

WWE has yet to announce a return timeline for Rollins, but Alvarez suggested that Rollins will return much sooner than whatever timeline is provided publicly.

Since Rollins is in possession of the Money in the Bank contract, WWE has the luxury of coupling his return with a cash-in, making it a shocking and impactful moment regardless of how long he is on the shelf.

Rollins admitting that he may be in attendance at SummerSlam leaves open the possibility of a surprise cash-in if Rollins' injury actually isn't significant.

At the same time, Rollins could simply be going to support his wife, and it is entirely possible that his injury is something that will require a lengthy layoff.

Wrestling tends to be at its best and most entertaining when fans can't distinguish a work from a shoot, and that seems to be what is happening with Rollins' injury right now.

That should play right into the hands of Rollins and WWE as a whole since it helps maintain the element of surprise as it relates to a Money in the Bank cash-in.
