Alyssa Thomas Named WNBA's Biggest Trash Talker as Caitlin Clark, Reese Get Votes
Nobody talks more trash in the WNBA than Alyssa Thomas.
At least according to her peers.
Sabreena Merchant and Ben Pickman of The Athletic shared the results of an anonymous WNBA player's poll Monday, and the Phoenix Mercury star was named the biggest trash talker in the league.
Of the 33 respondents, 13 of them voted for Thomas. That meant she was well ahead of second-place finisher Courtney Williams of the Minnesota Lynx (five) and third-place finisher Marina Mabrey of the Connecticut Sun (four).
Skylar Diggins of the Seattle Storm received two votes, while Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever and Angel Reese of the Chicago Sky were among the number of players who received a single vote.
Merchant and Pickman noted Diana Taurasi used to dominate this category, but her retirement opened it up for another member of the Mercury.
"She smiles and talks s--t, that's the crazy part, it's psycho stuff, she's crazy, man," one player said of Thomas.
Another said, "everyone knows AT talks s--t. I don't even guard her, and she talks s--t to me."
It is deserved trash talk, though, as Thomas has been dominant throughout her career with a resume that includes three All-WNBA selections, a rebounding title, six All-Defensive nods and six All-Star Game selections.
One of those All-Star Game selections came this season, as the double-double machine is averaging 15.3 points, 9.5 assists, 7.5 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game while shooting 53.8 percent from the field.
She posted a triple-double during last Monday's win against the Dallas Wings with 15 points, 15 assists and 10 rebounds and then followed that performance up with 29 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two steals during Wednesday's win over the Lynx.
And as long as she keeps putting up those numbers, she will have plenty of reason to continue talking trash to the opposition.
