Coco Gauff Sends Heartfelt Message to Amanda Anisimova After Wimbledon Loss to Iga

Mike ChiariJul 12, 2025

Coco Gauff offered some words of encouragement to fellow American tennis star Amanda Anisimova following the 2025 Wimbledon final on Saturday.

After Anisimova fell 6-0, 6-0, in her first career Grand Slam singles final to Iga Świątek, Gauff wrote, "Keep your head up," to Anisimova in a post on X:

While Anisimova played the tournament of her life at Wimbledon, she was completely overmatched against Świątek, becoming the first woman to lose 6-0, 6-0, in a Grand Slam final since Natasha Zvereva at the 1988 French Open.

The 21-year-old Gauff and 23-year-old Anisimova have been facing each other for years, dating back to their time as junior players before turning pro.

Anisimova beat Gauff in the 2017 junior U.S. Open final, but it took years for Anisimova to enjoy similar success at the professional level.

Before making her Grand Slam final debut at Wimbledon this year, Anisimova had only gotten past the fourth round at a Grand Slam twice, reaching the 2019 French Open semifinals and the 2022 Wimbledon quarterfinals.

By comparison, Gauff won the 2023 U.S. Open and 2025 French Open, plus she has one other Grand Slam final and two other Grand Slam semifinal appearances to her credit.

For all of her success, Gauff has dealt with her fair share of disappointments as well, falling in the first round at Wimbledon in two of the past three years.

Her 2025 season has been a roller-coaster ride of sorts, reaching the quarterfinals at the Australian Open and winning the French Open before getting ousted in the first round at Wimbledon.

Gauff also knows how tough of an opponent Świątek can be, posting a career record of just 4-11 against the Polish star.

Świątek is by far the best and most successful women's tennis player of the 2020s thus far, winning six career Grand Slam titles. After Saturday's triumph, she is now just an Australian Open title away from the career Grand Slam.

Gauff has yet to beat Świątek at a Grand Slam, but she has won three matches in a row against her, which is proof that it is possible for Anisimova to bounce back to potentially even defeat Świątek in the future despite the one-sided nature of Saturday's final.
