Friday's result marked the end of Djokovic's bid for a seventh consecutive trip to the Wimbledon Finals. He lost the last two tournament championships to Carlos Alcaraz and had won the previous four.
Sinner managed to break Djokovic's serve midway through each of the first two sets. Djokovic claimed a quick 3-0 lead in the third set, but Sinner responded by winning five consecutive games to take control.
This was Sinner's sixth win over Djokovic in 10 matches and the first time he beat the Serbian star at Wimbledon.
Here is a look at how the semifinal action at Wimbledon unfolded on Friday.
Semifinals
No. 1 Jannik Sinner def. No. 6 Novak Djokovic, 6-3, 6-3, 6-4
No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz def. No. 5 Taylor Fritz, 6-4, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6
Finals
No. 1 Jannik Sinner vs. No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz, Sunday, 11 a.m.
Sinner will now take on two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz for the title. Alcaraz earned his spot after winning a tight matchup against American Taylor Fritz earlier in the day.
Alcaraz holds an 8-4 advantage over Sinner in their head-to-head matchups. Sinner has not defeated Alcaraz since 2023. The two met at Wimbledon in 2022, a match that Sinner won in four sets.
Their last meeting came at Roland-Garros in May, where Alcaraz stunned Sinner in a five-set thriller that has already been cemented as one of the best matches of the century.
