NXT Divas, Finn Balor, Kevin Owens and Latest WWE Developmental News & Rumors

Donald WoodJul 15, 2015

Finn Balor’s rise to the top of the WWE NXT rankings is something many hardcore wrestling fans expected, but the star’s performances at Beast in the East and on the weekly NXT programming have been even better than anticipated.

Add in the fact that Balor beat arguably one of the hottest commodities in wrestling today, Kevin Owens, and the excitement surrounding Balor’s championship win and the subsequent rematch are through the roof.

On the other hand, there are rumors swirling now that some NXT stars are upset about Owens’ arrival on the main roster. Remember, though, it’s always important to take what the dirtsheets say with a grain of salt.

As if the week couldn't get any better for NXT fans, the debut of several top women's wrestlers made this one of the wildest weeks in the brand's history.

Here is all the latest NXT developmental news for this week.

NXT Divas Steal the Show

1 of 5

The highlight of this week’s episode of Raw was the true main-roster debut of NXT stars Becky Lynch, Charlotte and Sasha Banks. After dominating the ranks of NXT, it’s time to see what these wrestlers can do on Raw and SmackDown.

Most fans saw the writing on the wall for an NXT women’s wrestler to be called up to the main roster, but having three of the top stars in the developmental brand debut at the same time created a special moment that instantly made the Divas division more entertaining.

According to PWInsider.com (h/t WrestleZone.com), WWE officials were thrilled about how the NXT debuts went down on Monday and there is excitement surrounding the angle. Now the company just needs to change the division’s name back to the Women’s Division.

With three three-person stables effectively being formed in one night, the hope is that the stagnant state of women’s wrestling in the WWE gets the shot in the arm it has needed for months. Leading that charge will be a new breed of NXT women’s wrestlers.

More Notes on Finn Balor’s Title Win

2 of 5

The booking in the weeks prior to the NXT Championship match between Kevin Owens and Finn Balor led most fans to believe the challenger was going to leave Beast in the East with the title around his waist, and that's exactly what happened.

According to PWInsider (h/t WrestlingInc.com,) the feeling backstage was that Balor’s win was mapped out well in advance and that officials knew they were going to book the title change for a while.

While there are some people who believe the storyline for Balor was likely originally planned for Hideo Itami, Balor’s Japanese background and history of wrestling in the country made the situation still feel organic.

Regardless of how long WWE officials had the plan for Balor to win in place, the company followed through with the stellar booking and gave the new champion a title win he could build a career around.

Some NXT Talent Mad About Kevin Owens' Call-Up?

3 of 5

Former NXT champion Kevin Owens has looked amazing since making his main-roster debut with the WWE, but there are reports swirling that some of the wrestlers in NXT who have been there for a long time are jealous of Owens and his accelerated push to the Raw and SmackDown.

According to Eric Arrington of DailyWrestlingNews.com, there are some talents in NXT who are jealous of the fact that Owens was fast-tracked to the main roster while other wrestlers who have longer tenure with the company continue to wait in developmental for their shot.

The report claims Tyler Breeze voiced his displeasure with the situation.

The biggest problem here is this website dragging Breeze’s name into this discussion. It is unlikely that top NXT stars are complaining about anyone making the jump to the main roster, as it not only brings attention to the brand but also paves the way for stars to make the successful jump in the future.

There may be a few talents jealous of Owens' speedy rise through the ranks, but adding Breeze’s name to this rumor without any real proof is irresponsible.

Several Big Names Advertised for NXT: TakeOver

4 of 5

One of the best parts of watching NXT each week is the slow build to the brand’s special TakeOver events, and the next will take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, the day before SummerSlam 2015.

With a focus on NXT from casual fans due to the recent wave of call-ups, the WWE is pulling out all the stops for the Brooklyn special event, and the company is advertising Samoa Joe, Charlotte, Tyler Breeze and Sasha Banks to be at the show, according to WrestlingInc.com.

Add in the fact that Finn Balor and Kevin Owens will go to battle in a rematch for the NXT Championship on the TakeOver card the Saturday night before SummerSlam, and wrestling fans are in store for one heck of an end-of-summer wrestling blowout.

Bayley Back in Action After Injury

5 of 5

There is no doubt that the recent call-ups of top NXT women’s stars will leave the roster in the developmental territory thinner than most would like to admit, but wrestling fans got great news as popular face Bayley returned to action after recovering from a broken hand.

According to Nick Paglino of WrestleZone.com, Bayley returned Sunday night at a NXT Live Event in Jacksonville, Florida. She defeated Dana Brooke in a singles match, but she was wearing a soft cast on her hand.

Bayley was already one of the most popular women’s wrestlers on the roster, and with the likely departure of Charlotte, Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks, the NXT Universe will likely be even more on the side of Bayley.
