American Taylor Fritz Advances to Wimbledon Semis, Beats Khachanov in Men's Bracket

Doric SamJul 8, 2025

Taylor Fritz continued his surge at Wimbledon, defeating Karen Khachanov in four sets to reach the semifinals for the first time in his career.

Fritz won 6-3, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (4) in Tuesday's quarterfinal match.

Per ESPN, Fritz is the first American man to reach the Wimbledon semifinals since John Isner in 2018. He is also the first American to reach three ATP-level semifinals on grass courts in a calendar year.

"It's an amazing feeling," Fritz said after the win. "Having played the quarterfinals here twice and lost in five twice I don't think I could have taken another one."

Fritz stormed out of the gates as he won the first two sets, but he appeared to lose some steam in the third. At one point, he needed a medical timeout to have the trainer re-tape his right foot.

Things looked bleak when Khachanov broke Fritz's serve to begin the fourth set and took a 2-0 lead. However, Fritz regained his strength and later won the final three points of the tiebreaker to close out the match.

"I've never really had the match change like that so drastically where I felt so in control, playing great, serving great," Fritz said. "I didn't feel like my serve was in danger, I felt like I was putting a lot of pressure on his serve. I felt like I couldn't miss and then, out of nowhere, I just started making a ton of mistakes. So I really just had to fight to get that break back in the fourth and kind of just get the match back to neutral."

Fritz is now 13-1 on grass courts this season, the most grass wins on the ATP Tour. He will face the winner of Tuesday's other quarterfinal between Carlos Alcaraz and Cameron Norrie in the semifinals on Friday.
