Eugenio Suarez Reportedly Traded to Mariners from Diamondbacks Ahead of MLB Deadline

Doric SamJul 31, 2025

Amid his stellar 2025 season, Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez is on the move to a familiar destination.

According to ESPN's Jeff Passan, the Diamondbacks traded Suarez to the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday night. It was less than two years ago that Arizona acquired him in an offseason trade with the Mariners following the 2023 campaign.

The Diamondbacks received three prospects in exchange for Suarez on Wednesday, per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic:

All are top 20 prospects in the Mariners' system, according to MLB.com, with Tyler Locklear leading the way at No. 9.

After producing 30 home runs and 101 RBI in his first year with the Diamondbacks in 2024, Suarez has picked up right where he left off. He's hitting .248 with 36 home runs and 87 RBI this season, earning his second career All-Star selection. He's been named National League Player of the Week four times.

In an April loss to the Atlanta Braves, Suarez became just the 19th player in MLB history to hit four home runs in a single game. He also surpassed the 300 HR mark earlier this season.

Despite being one of the best power-hitting third basemen in the majors, Suarez has had trouble finding a permanent home. He made his major league debut with the Detroit Tigers in 2014 before being shipped to the Cincinnati Reds the following year. After seven seasons with the Reds, he was sent to the Mariners, who held onto him for two years before sending him to the Diamondbacks.

Adding a power bat like Suarez to the lineup should work wonders for a Seattle team that has a 57-51 record. He should fit right in alongside star catcher Cal Raleigh as the Mariners chase a trip to the playoffs.
