Jannik Sinner & Grigor Dimitrov

Jannik Sinner defeated Grigor Dimitrov via retirement 3-6, 5-7, 2-2 to reach the quarterfinal for the fourth consecutive year.

Sinner entered his Round of 16 matchup in scorching form.

The top-ranked Italian had yet to drop a set all tournament or lose a game on serve.

But Grigor Dimitrov was unfazed.

The 34-year-old broke Sinner's first service game, then used a vintage serving performance—where he won 20 of 21 points on first serve—and equally impressive net play to take the opening set.

In the second set, Dimitrov broke the three-time major champion and continued to ride his powerful serve.

However, when the Bulgarian was serving for the set, Sinner finally broke back.

But that momentum was short-lived, as Dimitrov quickly reciprocated and managed to hold, securing a two-set lead.

However, an injury to Dimitrov in the third set forced him to retire, advancing Sinner to the quarterfinal.

The world No. 1 will face heavy-hitting Ben Shelton next, with a chance to reach the semifinal on the line.

Sinner was far from his best today and will need to quickly regroup, given the current form of the American.

Novak Djokovic Escapes First Test

4 of 7
Novak Djokovic

Novak Djokovic defeated Alex De Minaur, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4, to win his 101st match at the All England Club.

But it was not easy, especially from the get-go, as Djokovic could not have asked for a worse start.

Alex De Minaur needed just 30 minutes to take a one-set lead against the 24-time Grand Slam champion, who struggled to keep up in rallies, committing 16 unforced errors, along with four double-faults.

Djokovic broke De Minaur to start the second set, but his baseline inconsistency continued to plague him, as De Minaur broke right back in a game that lasted just short of 19 minutes.

But Djokovic was unfazed and broke back right away after winning a thrilling, 35-shot rally. Then, the 38-year-old won his next service game without losing a point.

De Minaur broke back games later, but Djokovic once again returned the favor before eventually saving multiple break points to win the second set.

In the third set, Djokovic finally found the serve that had been working so well this week. The world No. 6 won 75 percent of points on first serve before breaking De Minaur late to seize the third set.

De Minaur surged to a 4-1 lead in the fourth set; however, Djokovic found his signature return game, breaking the 11-seed in consecutive games while winning 14 of the final 15 points to book his spot in yet another Wimbledon final.

Djokovic was far from his best on Monday but found his top form when he needed it most.

On Wednesday, the 6-seed will face Flavio Cobolli, who defeated an in-form Marin Cilic to reach his first career major quarterfinal.

Ben Shelton Reaches First Wimbledon Quarterfinal, Eyes Jannik Sinner

Day Eight: The Championships - Wimbledon 2025
Ben Shelton

Ben Shelton and Lorenzo Sonego faced off in the third consecutive Grand Slam.

And for the third straight time, Shelton emerged victorious, defeating Sonego 3-6, 6-1, 7-6(1), 7-5 to reach his first Wimbledon quarterfinal.

Shelton had not dropped a set entering the match, but that quickly changed as his early serving struggles plagued him, leaving him facing a one-set deficit.

But the 10-seed woke up quick.

In the second set, Shelton won 86 percent of points on his first serve, committed just six unforced errors, and excelled at the net, where he won 11 of 13 points to even the match in just 31 minutes.

In the third set, the pair continued to trade holds until Shelton used his relentless aggression to break, leading 4-3. However, the Italian returned the favor, sending the set to a tiebreaker.

Shelton controlled the entirety of the tiebreaker with his aggression, improved return play, and athleticism to take a two-set-to-one lead.

In the fourth set, Sonego served to send it to another tiebreaker, but Shelton quickly broke to seal the victory.

Shelton has dropped just one set all tournament, continuing to look untouchable with his dominant serve and powerful groundstrokes.

However, he's about to face the most difficult task in all of men's tennis: Jannik Sinner.

The American has the tools to disrupt Sinner's routine, and he'll need to hit his first serve at a 70% rate, play with nonstop aggression, and limit the unforced errors.

But even then, the prospects of an upset of this caliber seem extremely unlikely.

Iga Swiatek Continues To Play Impressive Grass-Court Tennis

Day Eight: The Championships - Wimbledon 2025
Iga Swiatek

Iga Swiatek dominated Clara Tauson 6-4, 6-1 to reach the Wimbledon quarterfinal for the second time in her career.

Swiatek struggled from the start, hitting two double faults in a first service game where she won zero points.

However, she quickly found her groove.

After falling down 3-1, the five-time major champion won five of the next six games to capture the first set.

In the second set, Swiatek played a near-flawless mix of aggression and defense, breaking Tauson's serve twice en route to victory.

Swiatek won 51 percent of return points, along with 92 percent of points on her first serve.

The 24-year-old has reached the quarterfinal after dropping just one set.

Swiatek will face Liudmila Samsonova in the quarterfinal, looking to reach the semifinal at Wimbledon for the first time in her career.

Samsonova has lost all four of the pair's head-to-head matchups, but given her current form, she is more than capable of keeping this close.

Mirra Andreeva Cruises Past Emma Navarro To Reach First Career Wimbledon Quarterfinal

7 of 7
Day Eight: The Championships - Wimbledon 2025
Mirra Andreeva

Mirra Andreeva defeated Emma Navarro 6-2, 6-3 to reach the Wimbledon quarterfinal for the first time in her career.

The 18-year-old dominated the first set in just 33 minutes, winning 89 percent of the points on her first serve while playing an equally impressive return game, where she seamlessly moved the American side-to-side, using her patience and timed aggression to emerge victorious in longer rallies.

While Andreeva committed six more unforced errors in the opening set than the 10-seed, that was more indicative of her aggressive baseline approach compared to Navarro's passiveness, which resulted in zero winners.

In the second set, Navarro began to play much more aggressively, but Andreeva's defense paid off as she won a lengthy ball rally to break her opponent's first service game.

However, the 24-year-old quickly put it behind her and capitalized off a break point a game later.

But Andreeva broke right back with ease to regain control of the set. Then, a game later, she saved three break points to take a 3-1 lead.

The pair traded another set of breaks, but the 7-seed remained in firm control, holding her final two service games to clinch her spot in the quarterfinal.

Andreeva has reached the last eight without surrendering a set. In fact, she has lost more than three games in a set just once in her four matches.

She is more than capable of claiming her first major this week.

With court movement, ball-striking precision, and a tennis IQ that far exceeds her 18 years of age, the rest of the draw should be on high alert.
