
Hannah Hidalgo Stars as USA Routs Dominican Republic to Reach FIBA AmeriCup Semifinals
Notre Dame's Hannah Hidalgo and LSU's Flau'jae Johnson led Team USA to the semifinals of the 2025 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup in a dominant Fourth of July victory over the Dominican Republic on Friday.
Johnson scored 22 points, while Hidalgo added 17 points and nine assists as Team USA claimed a 110-44 quarterfinal win and moved on to the next round in Chile.

Fans were impressed with Hidalgo's ability to help Team USA establish a dominant lead early in Friday's game.
Viewers also praised Johnson for bouncing back from a zero-point group stage outing against Mexico by leading Team USA in scoring against the Dominican Republic.
Cesarina Capellan helped the Dominican Republic trade baskets with the United States early in the first quarter of Friday's quarterfinal game.
The two teams were tied about five minutes into the game when Team USA went on a 17-point run to end the opening frame.
The Americans never trailed again, increasing their lead to a 34-point advantage by the end of the half.
Team USA climbed out to a 50-point lead in a third quarter capped off by a buzzer-beater from Johnson.
The United States closed out the game having out-rebounded the Dominican Republic 57-32, while holding their opponents to 37.5 percent shooting from the two-point range and 17.7 percent shooting from deep.
TCU guard Olivia Miles contributed seven assists and four rebounds in the victory. Texas' Madison Booker, UCLA's Gianna Kneepkens and Vanderbilt's Mikayla Blakes each topped 12 points in the win.
AmeriCup play continues on Friday with quarterfinal games between Canada and Colombia at 2:10 p.m. ET, Brazil and Mexico at 5:40 p.m. ET and Puerto Rico and Argentina at 8:10 p.m. ET.
Whoever wins Friday's matchup between Canada and Colombia will advance to face the United States in the semifinals.
Hidalgo and Team USA will play with a shot at the AmeriCup title game on the line on Saturday at 5:40 p.m. ET.
