Novak Djokovic Jokes About His Age in Video After 99th Win at Wimbledon vs. Dan Evans
Novak Djokovic is the aged veteran at this year's Wimbledon, and the 38-year-old had some fun with the situation following Thursday's second-round victory over Daniel Evans.
During his postmatch interview, Djokovic was asked what he thinks about reaching the third round of the famed tournament for the 19th time. That is the highest total for any men's singles player.
"It means that I've been playing quite a long time," he joked (2:15 mark). "And also, I mean 19 times, I mean, that's a great stat. Probably almost as much as [Jannik] Sinner and [Carlos] Alcaraz have years in their life."
Djokovic had no trouble with Evans during a 6-3, 6-2, 6-0 win. It was sheer dominance from a statistical standpoint with 11 aces to five. He also won 89 percent of his first-service points and took advantage of six of the 16 break points he created.
The match was never in doubt, which comes as no surprise given the career accomplishments of the all-time great who is looking to add to a resume that includes seven Wimbledon titles and 24 Grand Slam championships.
Next up is a third-round match against Miomir Kecmanovic.
That will likely be another straightforward victory, as Djokovic holds a 3-0 career head-to-head record against Kecmanovic. The most recent of their matches came during Wimbledon in 2022, and Djokovic won that in straight sets.
The more straight set wins the 38-year-old can string together in the early rounds of Wimbledon, the fresher he will presumably be for the high-profile showdowns later in the tournament.
