Gold Cup Bracket 2025 Odds, Predictions for USMNT vs. Mexico Final

Joe TanseyJul 3, 2025

The United States men's national team and Mexico will once again face off in the Concacaf Gold Cup final on Sunday in Houston.

Mauricio Pochettino's USMNT advanced to the final with a 2-1 win over Guatemala, while El Tri moved on with a 1-0 triumph over Honduras.

Sunday's title match marks the eighth time the North American rivals have met in the Gold Cup final. It is the third time in the last four Gold Cups in which the two sides will square off for the crown.

The Americans have had the upper hand in recent rivalry meetings, but El Tri should be considered the favorite on Sunday because of the better roster they brought to the tournament.

Preview

Mexico has had the better run to the final compared to the USMNT.

El Tri have not allowed a goal since their group-stage opener against the Dominican Republic.

Mexico hasn't scored more than two goals in any of its last four games, but it hasn't had to score in abundance because its defense has been so pristine.

The USMNT back line has had its share of issues throughout the tournament, including on the lone semifinal concession against Guatemala.

Pochettino's men allowed a goal in each of its last three games. They need a massive performance from the Chris Richards-Tim Ream center-back duo against Raul Jimenez and Co. in the Mexico attack to even have a shot of winning the tournament.

The inexperience throughout most of the roster could hurt the Americans in this particular spot.

The attacking trio of Patrick Agyemang, Malik Tillman and Diego Luna displayed plenty of bright spots, but you could argue that Tillman and Agyemang needed to do more in Wednesday's semifinal to put the game away.

Luna has been the revelation of the tournament. He played his way into the conversation to be on the 2026 FIFA World Cup roster. He scored twice on Wednesday and owns three of the USMNT's four knockout-round goals.

Another brilliant showing out of Luna will be needed to test the Mexico defense. He has been the best American player in the tournament and a vital link between the back line and the attacking triumvirate.

Mexico's defensive game plan should be to isolate Luna and to keep Agyemang and Tillman out of the contest.

Mexico also has motivation on its side to get back into the winning column in the rivalry.

The Americans enter Sunday on a three-game winning streak against Mexico in continental finals between the Nations League and Gold Cup.

An American win would be an unlikely result given the inexperience on the roster. Mexico should win with relative ease, especially if its defense remains stellar.

Prediction: Mexico 2, USMNT 0
