Morgan Geekie, Bruins Agree to 6-Year, $33M Contract Before NHL Free Agency

Andrew PetersJun 29, 2025

The Boston Bruins have locked Morgan Geekie into a long-term deal ahead of his free agency.

Geekie agreed to a six-year, $33 million deal with the Bruins on Sunday, the franchise announced. Geekie will now be contractually tied to Boston until 2031 after bouncing around to a few teams to start his career.

Geekie was set to hit the restricted free agent market on July 1, and general manager Don Sweeney indicated last week that the two sides weren't exactly close to a deal.

“There’s been constant communication. Are we on the doorstep? I don’t think so. But that can change within one phone call,” Sweeney told reporters. “You get in around this timeframe and sometimes you’re tracking on a deal and you get it done right away. And other times you get sort of pushed to the back burner... It doesn’t mean that my attention isn’t on Morgan and being able to close out a deal."

Geekie had a career year with 33 goals and 24 assists, both career highs, and was a bright spot for the Bruins as they missed the postseason for the first time since 2015-16.

Amid a down year for Boston, Geekie found himself in trade rumors, but he made it clear he wanted to stay with the Bruins.

"I want to be a Bruin. I'd love to be a Bruin as long as I can be," Geekie said in February, per Boston.com's Conor Ryan. "It's not up to me, and I'm just going to go out there and play."

Geekie now has his wish, and the 26-year-old will stay in Boston for the prime years of his career.

A third-round pick in 2017, Geekie started his career in Carolina but spent just two seasons with the Hurricanes before being selected by the Seattle Kraken in the 2021 NHL expansion draft. He played for the Kraken for two seasons but left for Boston as a restricted free agent ahead of the 2023-24 season.

He's been a journeyman in the early years of his career, but now has a place he'll call home for the long term.
