LSU guard Flau'Jae Johnson stood out defensively for the Americans, recording a game-high four steals despite finishing with just three points on 1-of-8 shooting.

Fans were impressed with Johnson's performance during the blowout victory by the U.S. squad.

Saturday's contest wasn't initially one-sided, with Chile taking an early 14-11 lead in the first quarter. The United States also ended the quarter with a mere five-point advantage.

Team USA ultimately pulled away before halftime and never looked back, outscoring Chile 27-9 in the second quarter.

The U.S. squad dominated on both ends of the court throughout the second half, holding Chile to just two points in the fourth quarter.

Oklahoma forward Raegan Beers led the way for the United States with 22 points, shooting 9-of-12 from the field and connecting on her lone three-point attempt of the game.

Beers also grabbed seven rebounds and recorded three steals.

Olivia Miles only scored six points in just over 20 minutes on the floor, but the Notre Dame guard dished out a team-high seven assists to go along with two steals of her own.

Hannah Hidalgo, Miles' teammate on the Fighting Irish, finished with 14 points and four assists.

Team USA's swarming defense was key in the win, amassing 20 steals as Chile committed 27 turnovers as a team.

The United States is attempting to secure a fifth gold medal at the AmeriCup, standing atop the podium in 2019 and 2021. Team USA finished as a runner-up in 2023, though.

The U.S. squad, which is comprised of college athletes, will now look to continue racking up wins in the group stage during its next matchup with Colombia on Sunday.
