Jacy Jayne Beats Jordynne Grace to Win NXT Title at Historic WWE Evolution PLE

Jacy Jayne defeated Jordynne Grace at the second-ever WWE Evolution premium live event on Sunday to retain the NXT Women's Championship.

NXT newcomer Blake Monroe, who was in Grace's corner to start the match, turned on her in the final moments and hit her in the back with the title belt, allowing Jayne to hit her rolling clothesline finisher.

Grace became the No. 1 contender for the NXT women's title last month by navigating her way through a modified tournament.

In the first round, Grace beat Lola Vice, setting up a final Fatal 4-Way match against the other three first-round winners in Jaida Parker, Lash Legend and Izzi Dame.

Grace was victorious on the June 24 episode of NXT, and she ended the show in a tense stare-down with Jayne and her Fatal Influence stablemates Fallon Henley and Jazmyn Nyx.

Back in May, Jayne confronted then-NXT women's champion Stephanie Vaquer backstage and viciously slapped her across the face, which led to Vaquer agreeing to put her title on the line.

The championship bout took place on the May 27 episode of NXT, and thanks to interference from Henley and Nyx outside the ring, Jayne won the title in one of the most shocking upsets in NXT history.

In the weeks that followed, Jayne and Fatal Influence became embroiled in a rivalry with Monroe, who previously wrestled as Mariah May during her time in Japan and with AEW.

While Jayne was focused on Monroe and preventing her from attempting to overshadow Fatal Influence, Grace emerged as No. 1 contender and became Jayne's most pressing threat.

Additionally, Grace and Monroe became allies in their feud with Fatal Influence, facing Jayne and Henley in a tag team match at NXT Great American Bash the night before Evolution.

Grace made her debut as a full-time member of the NXT roster in February after arriving from TNA where she was a three-time Knockouts world champion and arguably the most dominant woman in company history.

Although Grace fell short in her first couple of cracks at winning the NXT women's title, Sunday marked perhaps her best chance yet.

Even so, Grace was unable to seal the deal once again, as Jayne successfully defended her title at the all-women's premium live event.
